London Buses route P4 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Brixton and Lewisham, it is operated by Stagecoach London.


History

Route P4 was commenced operation on 30 September 1972 between Brixton Station and Brockley Rise Chandos via Brixton Road - Gresham Road - Coldharbour Lane - Herne Hill Road - Red Post Hill - Dulwich Village - Court Lane - Lordship Lane - London Road - Honor Oak Road - Honor Oak Park as a Monday to Saturday service. The route was initially operated by London Transport from their Stockwell (SW) garage using Ford Transits.

On 18 December 1976, the Ford Transits were replaced by Bristol LHs.

On 4 September 1982, the evening service was withdrawn.

On 29 January 1983, the route was extended from Brockley Rise to Lewisham via route 122. The Bristol LHs were replaced by Leyland Nationals at the same time.

On 3 August 1985, the route passed to London Country from their Catford (NL) garage using Leyland Nationals. A Sunday service was introduced at the same time.

On 28 February 1987, the allocation was transferred to Victoria (VE) garage.

On 27 April 1987, the route was transferred to Kentish Bus but still operating from their Catford (NL) garage using Leyland Nationals.

On 30 December 1989, the allocation was transferred to Southwark (SK) garage.

On 17 Novemebr 1990, the allocation was transferred to Dartford (DT) garage.

On 27 April 1991, the route passed to Selkent operating from their Catford (TL) garage using Wright Handybus bodied Dennis Darts introduced.

On 6 September 1994, the route was included in the sale of Selkent to Stagecoach Selkent.

On 2 May 1998, the route was retained by Selkent with low floor Plaxton Pointer 2 bodied Dennis Dart SLFs introduced.

On 3 May 2003, the route was retained by Stagecoach London.

In August 2006, the route was included in the sale of Stagecoach Selkent to Macquarie Bank who restored the Selkent trading name logo.

On 1 May 2010, the route was retained by Selkent.

On 14 October 2010, the route was included in the sale of Macquarie Bank to Stagecoach London.

In 2014, Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts were introduced.

On 29 April 2017, the route was retained by Stagecoach London and was converted to full Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Dart operation.

On 30 January 2021, an existing Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 MMC was introduced alongside the existing Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts.
