London Buses route 101 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Wanstead and Gallions Reach Retail Park, it is operated by Blue Triangle.

History

Route 101 commenced operating in March 1914 by London General, Running between North Woolwich and Wanstead. It ran alongside the 101B which diverted at East Ham and went to Cranbrook Park via Ilford Broadway.

On 3 October 1934, the route passed to London Transport operating from their Upton (U) garage using Leyland Titan TDs.

On 17 April 1935, the route was extended from Wanstead to Lambourne End.

On 8 April 1942, the route was withdrawn between Wanstead and Lambourne End.

On 5 July 1944, the Leyland Titan TDs were replaced by AEC Renown's and the Wanstead terminal was altered to Woodbine Place instead of George.

On 22 May 1946, the AEC Renowns were replaced by Park Royal bodied Guy Arabs, and the extension from Wanstead to Lambourne End was reinstated.

On 19 May 1954, the AEC Renowns were replaced by AEC Regent III RTs.

On 6 October 1954, the route was withdrawn between Wanstead and Lambourne End.

On 30 October 1971, AEC Routemasters were introduced.

On 28 October 1972, the route was converted to full AEC Routemaster operation.

On 30 April 1978, the AEC Routmasters were replaced by crew operated Daimler Fleetlines.

On 4 September 1989, the route was converted to one person operation using Leyland Titans.

On 5 November 1994, the route was converted to low floor single deck operation using brand new Wright Pathfinder bodied Scania SLFs.

On 4 March 2000, the route was retained by Stagecoach East London.

On 5 March 2005, the route was retained by Stagecoach London.

On 17 December 2005, the route was withdrawn between Cyprus and North Woolwich and was diverted to Gallions Reach instead.

In March 2006, the route was converted to double deck operation using Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Tridents.

On 7 November 2008, the route was diverted at Woolwich Manor Way to run via the new Beckton Bus Station.

On 17 September 2011, Upton Park (U) garage was announced closed and the allocation was transferred to Barking (BK) garage.

On 3 March 2012, the route was retained by Stagecoach London with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s introduced.

On 4 March 2017, the route passed to Blue Triangle operating from their River Road (RR) garage with Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B9TLs introduced.

On 21 May 2022, the route was withdrawn between Gallions Reach Shopping Park and Beckton Bus Station.
