London Buses Route 264 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between West Croydon and Tooting, it is operated by Metrobus.
History[]
Route 264 commenced operation on 22 August 1987 between Tooting Broadway Longmead Road and New Addington Homestead Way via Mitcham Common - West Croydon - Croydon Katharine Street - Croham Road - Farley Road - Addington - Lodge Lane. The route was initially operated by South London from their Merton (AL) and Croydon (TC) garages using Daimler Fleetlines and ECW bodied Leyland Olympians. The route was introduced to replace the withdrawn section of route 64 between West Croydon and Tooting.
On 26 November 1988, the allocation was transferred from Merton (AL) and Croydon (TC) garages to Thornton Heath (TH) garage.
On 21 July 1990, the route was extended at all times from Croydon to South Croydon Garage, and the Sunday service was withdrawn between Croydon and New Addington, this section was replaced by a re-introduced Route 64. The route was converted to a full ECW bodied Leyland Olympian operation at the same time.
On 29 June 1991, the route was withdrawn between Croydon and South Croydon Garage.
On 8 November 1997, the allocation was transferred to Croydon (TC) garage.
On 29 August 1998, the route was retained by Arriva London.
On 30 January 1999, the allocation was transferred to Thornton Heath (TH) garage.
On 30 April 2000, the Sunday service was transferred to Croydon (TC) garage.
On 1 September 2001, the allocation was transferred from Croydon (TC) and Thornton Heath (TH) garages to Beddington Farm (CN) garage.
On 30 August 2003, the route was retained by Arriva London using ECW bodied Leyland Olympians and low floor Wright Pulsar Gemini bodied DAF DB250LFs and was extended from Tooting Broadway to St George's Hospital.
In 2004, the route was converted to full low floor operation using Wright Pulsar Gemini bodied DAF DB250LFs.
On 20 March 2004, the route was converted to a 24-hour service.
On 28 August 2010, the route was retained by Arriva London.
On 31 March 2012, Beddington Farm (CN) garage was announced closed and the allocation was transferred to Croydon (TC) garage.
In September 2014, the Wright Pulsar Gemini bodied DAF DB250LFs were replaced by existing Wright Gemini 2 bodied VDL DB300s.
On 29 August 2015, the route was retained by Arriva London.
On 2 November 2019, the route was withdrawn between Croydon Katharine Street and West Croydon Bus Station.
On 27 August 2022, the route passed to Metrobus operating from their Croydon (C) garage using existing Enviro 400 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E40Hs temporarily.
On 13 December 2022, brand new Enviro 400 City EV bodied BYD DD Electrics were introduced alongside the existing Enviro 400 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E40Hs.
On 15 December 2022, the route was converted to a full Enviro 400 City EV bodied BYD DD operation.
