London Buses route 465 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Kingston and Dorking, it is operated by London United RATP.
History[]
Route 465 commenced operation on 28 June 1997 between Teddington Police Station and Dorking Goodwyns via Sandy Lane - Kingston - Surbiton - Chessington - Leatherhead - Dorking Townfield Court. The route was initially operated by London & Country from their Leatherhead (LH) garage using Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart SLFs. Before 28 June 1997 the route was a commercial route operated by London & Country.
On 1 May 1999, the route passed to Tellings-Golden Miller from their Byfleet (TG) garage using Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart SLFs.
On 5 June 1999, the route was diverted at Leatherhead via Great Bookham to Effingham Woodlands Road.
On 23 April 2000, the allocation was transferred to Fulwell (TF) garage.
On 27 January 2001, the route was withdrawn between Leatherhead and Effingham except for two peak journeys that double run via Effingham.
On 29 June 2001, the peak journeys via Effingham were withdrawn.
On 1 September 2001, the Sunday extension to Goodwyns was withdrawn.
On 2 February 2002, the route was extended from Teddington to Fulwell TGM Depot.
On 29 June 2002, the route was retained by Tellings-Golden Miller with Caetano Nimbus bodied Dennis Dart SLFs introduced.
On 17 June 2005, route 465 was included in the sale of Tellings-Golden Miller to Travel London.
On 6 May 2006, the route was curtailed at Kingston and replaced by a new, less frequent route 481, despite a protest by a local group to keep the service.
On 30 June 2007, the route passed to Arriva Guildford & West Surrey from their Horsham (HM) garage with brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Darts introduced. The route was rerouted between Kingston and Surbiton via Portsmouth Road and Surbiton Road at the same time.
On 3 October 2009, the route 465 was included in the sale of Arriva Guildford & West Surrey's Horsham operation to Metrobus. It was the only Transport for London contract to be worked out of the company's Crawley (CY) garage.
On 30 June 2012, the route passed to Quality Line with brand new Optare Versas introduced.
On 11 July 2015, the route was given a new schedule.
In 2017, Transport for London proposed to shorten the route at Leatherhead. Local residents in Mickleham, Surrey, were against the change as they would have had no public transport should the change have gone ahead. The residents of Mickleham and surrounding areas got the support of Surrey County Council, meaning Surrey County Council was against Transport for London's proposed changes. As the stretch from Leatherhead to Dorking is completely in Surrey, and it was the interests of Surrey residents to keep the route as it is, Transport for London and Surrey County Council agreed that the first section of the route between Kingston and Leatherhead is funded by Transport for London (as most of the area is still in Greater London), and the second section between Leatherhead and Dorking is funded by Surrey County Council. They both manage the route respectively and pay the operator respectively to the percentage they manage and the same applies when money is collected from bus fares but the fare remains fully managed by Transport for London.
On 1 July 2017, the route was retained by Quality Line RATP with a brand new Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20D introduced alongside the existing Optare Versas.
In January 2020, an Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Dart was introduced alongside the existing Optare Versas and Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20Ds.
In February 2020, the route was converted to a full Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 Dart and Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20D operation.
On 25 April 2020, the operation was transferred to London United RATP operating from their Tolworth (TV) garage.
In August 2020, the route was converted back to a full Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20D operation.
The route will pass to Transport UK London operating from their Fulwell (TF) garage using existing Enviro 200 MMC bodied Alexander Dennis E20Ds from 29 June 2024.
